With an illustrious career spanning over a decade as a licensed Master Electrician, coupled with two decades of diverse trades experience, Matthew Currie ignited the spark that led to our inception.

Get to know Matt
The Muscle of the Operation
Matthew Currie, the Owner/Operator of MC Volts Electric Inc. was born in 1987 and grew up in a small town called Duntroon, located in southern Ontario. After graduating high school in a neighbouring town called Collingwood, Matthew worked in many different trades, in several different industries in his pursuit of his dream job.
After becoming an electrician’s apprentice in his 20’s, he finally found his passion. At the age of 27, he left his mom, dad, twin brother and two sisters behind to pursue his trade as an electrician in Alberta. He spent a year working in the oil and gas industry as an apprentice in northern Alberta and travelled to British Columbia to finish his electrical training at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. There Matthew lived for several years, and eventually acquired his Class B FSR ticket.
While in school, he met his wife, Tyanaa, who grew up on Quadra Island. Matthew and Tyanaa got married and eventually moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, where they currently reside.
Matthew opened his business MC Volts Electric Inc after moving to the island, which has been a dream of his for ten years. Tyanaa has since given birth to their first child, Ryker, and they are currently expecting another baby boy in February of 2024.

The Heart of the Operation
Tyanaa Currie (Assu) was born in 1991 in Campbell River, BC. She is of Indigenous background, and grew up on the Cape Mudge Reserve on Quadra Island. At 20 years old she moved to the big city of Vancouver to pursue her dream of being in the beauty industry. There she completed her makeup program at Blanche Macdonald.
After a few years, Tyanaa moved to Kamloops where she met Matthew and furthered her career by completing the hairstylist program at Interior Academy. Shortly after she opened up her own business as a successful Hairstylist under Beauty By Tyanaa.
Tyanaa and Matthew married and relocated to Nanaimo together to be closer to her family. Since then, they made the decision to have a family of their own.
For now, she has put her career on hold to help Matthew open and establish his business and to be a stay at home mom to raise their children.
